Whistling Duck Cottage sits on the
shore of lovely pristine waters. Three islands border the harbor in front to protect and calm the waters. This protection creates an ideal enviroment for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking!
Travel Tidbits - Tidbits of information that might be helpful for you stay:
-Arrival on a Sunday to LI: Most stores and restaurants are closed. You may purchase staples (ie: bread, milk, eggs anything tailored to your taste) through Nancy to await you on your arrival day. Cost of the purchase which is determined beforehand is to be reimbursed to Nancy upon arrival. If you want to take advantage of this service, notice must be given to us in advance.
-Stores in Long Island are pleasantly well stocked. Frozen, canned & bottled items are typically on hand at all times. Fresh milk, meat, imported veggies are brought to the island by boat once a week. Also personal toiletries, paper goods and first aid items are usually for purchase. There are bars and liquor stores on the island.
-Laundry services are not available at the cottage. The marina in Clarence Town does have a spot to do laundry, a-do-it yourself thing with tokens. There is also a place near the airport that does provide laundry service, a leave off and pick up service.
-The island does not have any McDonalds, Club Meds or nightclubs. It has many very delicious, native restaurants and bars that have native bands that provide entertainment on some weekends.
-There are diving enterprises on the island. The nearest one is about a 35 minute ride from the cottage. Fishing expeditions also can be scheduled. Both can be scheduled through Nancy or independent means. Each has it's own cost and is an extra charge.
-There is an ATM machine in Deadmans Cay and some restaurants and stores take credit cards. US dollars are accepted on LI. Travellers checks are accepted in some establishments and banks are open during the week.
-Clarence Town has a post office and a local phone company-Batelco. Calling cards may be purchased here for out of country dialing. Also you can bring your cell phone with you and reception is good. You will need to check with your cell provider 7-10 days before leaving to program it for Bahamian reception.
-A health clinic is located in Clarence Town and Deadmans Cay.
-To make reservations with the smaller airlines-Pineapple Air or Southern Air-for the trip from Nassau to LI, calling early in the morning, noon or mid-afternoon is the best times to reach them.
-If renting a car for island touring, don't forget....driving is on the LEFT!
-At the present time there is a place on LI that offers internet service in the town of Hamiltons. The cost is minimal- 1/2hr use $5.00
